Taiping

Taiping

Taiping, the wettest town in Malaysia is ranked one of the top sustainable places in the world. The former mining settlement is home to majestic Maxwell Hill, old colonial buildings and a beautiful Lake Garden that is lined with century-old rain trees and lotus ponds.  As such, I really looked forward to the hour long drive to this magnificent town on 2nd August 1997. Enjoy the morning sun, stroll along the lake, sip a cup of coffee with charcoal-fire toasted bread … time to rejuvenate!
I was there to install Lion Steven Lim as the 32nd President of the Lions Club of Taiping. The Guest of Honour was YAB Orang Kaya Menteri Paduka, Tuan Dato’ Seri Wan Omar Wan Ahmad Rasdi. Dato’ was an easy-going person and we clicked instantly. He was very proud of the Taiping Lions and revealed to me that the Lions in Taiping adhered to the Lions’ code of ethics, even in their everyday life!

The simple and yet elegant ceremony went well and I knew that the Lions Club in Taiping would be in the capable hands of Steven.
