Suggestions for Improvement: Scroll to the end.
1) Have they paid their club's International Dues in full? If they have, ensure the bank draft was ready as proof. Bring all relevant documents to the convention, just in case needed.
2) Have they paid their District Dues in full? Bring the invoice and payment slip to the convention. Any disputes regarding the amount should be submitted in writing.
3) Have they submitted their club's voting delegate form before the deadline?
4) Have their president encouraged their club members to attend the convention? Have you registered them?
5) Have they completed the PU-101 form and submitted it to LCI?
6) Have they completed the necessary forms requested by the District Governor for award purposes?
Lions who were willing to step forward and dedicate their time to lead and support our movement, rather than being evaluated on their knowledge of Lionism, they invested considerable resources in campaigning.
As a result in 1998, the Council of Governors implemented decisive measures to promote the following initiatives: CAMPAIGN LEADING TO THE CONVENTION
i) Campaigns should focus on showcasing the candidates' capacity to address Lionistic issues.
ii) The serving of main meals and alcoholic beverages was deemed inappropriate and was discouraged.
iii) Campaign posters would be permitted only in a single designated area within the Convention/Hotel Headquarters.
iv) Candidates and their supporters were prohibited from serving major meals or alcoholic beverages to any Lions during the convention.
Despite the Council's efforts to rigorously uphold the code of conduct for district elections, these measures proved ineffective.
(Extract of DG Allan Cheah's Speech)
"This is a historic occasion. Many years from now, we
will tell our grandchildren and grand-grandchildren that we were part of the
historic event of the Lions' Tradition. This marks the last time we will have a
District 308B Lions Convention.
Our district has gone through many successful years and has
grown over time to enable us to achieve our motto of "We Serve as We
Care". This convention is very special to me personally as I look back to
the past and I feel extremely grateful for what we have achieved. It is a big
family, considering we have nine (9) Regions and nineteen (19) Zones in the district. However, we
work together as a unit and family to enable us to accomplish many projects
such as Sight Conversation and Work with the Blind, Youth Exchange, Education
Services, International Understanding, Environmental Services, Recreational
Services, Health Services, Public and Social Services. These are a tremendous
amount of work and effort and exemplifies what we believe in "We Serve
Through Teamwork"
I hope the sub-districts will continue our excellent
traditions and bring better lives, a better environment, and better services to
our country and community not only in this century but also in the next
millennium."
