Lions Day With PDRM - II

LIONS DAY WITH THE ROYAL MALAYSIAN POLICE

Majlis Makan Malam Kelab Lions Bersama PDRM on 7/3/1998

Members of the Lions fraternity and PDRM have established a good working rapport throughout the country.  We had a jointly implemented many successful projects prior to the 'Majlis Makan Malam kelab Lions Bersama PDRM'.

District Chairman, Michael Tham and his A-team were entrusted to organised an exhibition on road safety, anti-dadah and crime prevention at the lobby of Sunway Pyramid. We had also successfully added 100 bags to the Blood Bank through a campaign. A sum of RM60,000 was distributed to various charity homes and families of 16 police personnels who had suffered injuries in the course of duty.

In the evening, the "Majlis Malam Kelab Lions Bersama PDRM' was held at the Surf Poolside, Sunway Resort. About 500 Lions, Lionesses, police personnel and well-wishers shared the joy of comradeship between the Lions Clubs and PDRM.

At the function,  the District honored IGP Tan Sri with the District Fellow Award for his dedication and support for the Lions  Movement. We also took the opportunity to celebrate Tan Sri's birthday.

Extract part of speech:

"The Majlis Makan Malam Lions bersama PDRM tonight symbolizes an excellent cooperation between two unique organizations in the history of Lionism whereby we gather together here in this romantic atmosphere to celebrate one important commonality i.e "WE SERVE".

The Lions Day with PDRM program was initiated in February 1991 to acknowledge our mutual participation in the areas of crime prevention, drug abuse, road safety, and recognizing the roles of the LIONS & POLIS for their contribution & service to the community & nation. Its object is to inculcate a greater sense of civic consciousness among the public and the promotion of the POLIS as friends of the public. The LIONS and the POLIS have certainly worked hard to carry out meaningful projects and raised substantial funds to help the needy community over the last 7 years.

The success of such cooperation from 2 unique organizations namely the LIONS that are composed of volunteer individuals grouped under an International body whereby we enjoy fellowship and develop our leadership capacities, and dedicate part of our free time to help those in need while making our community a better place to live in and we learn to 1. Be a better person, 2.Build a better community, and 3. Be a citizen of the world; whereas the POLIS is a law enforcing body that is composed of trained individuals who are disciplined and obedient to orders and dedicate 100 percent of their time to serve the nation so that we have a harmonious community to live in, requires understanding, patience, tolerance, honesty, and integrity from the members.

We are glad that this auspicious occasion has provided us the opportunity to enhance our friendship and also renew our relationship to serve the nation together as one big family.

Lions Clubs International is 81 years old and Lionism was established 39 years ago in Malaysia (Malaya then). Whereas, Polis Diraja Malaysia is over 150 years old. I've also observed a change in your Polis logo - that you've put a tiger instead of a Lion. Could it be that the POLIS is ushering "The Year of Tiger" with a more aggressive approach to tame the Lions?  My fellow Lions, please don't mug around with any illegal acts otherwise you will be caged behind bars for FUN raising...."
