The Council of Governors

In the years 1997-1998, District Multiple District (MD) 308 was represented by two district governors (DGs): Dr. Winston Koh of District 308A and myself from District 308B. Together, we formed the MD Council of Governors, chaired by Lion Shiv Bannerjee, who served as the Council Chairman and acted as the coordinator for the two districts.

The MD Council was comprised by various committees, including those focused on Long Range Planning, Club & By-Laws, Youth Programs, Diabetes/Sight Initiatives, Campus Clubs, Convention/Protocol, Leo Clubs, Membership, Extension, Retention, and Leadership Development, among others. A minimum of four meetings were required, with dates predetermined.

The MD Council Chairman played a crucial role in organizing our participation in both the LCI Convention and the MD308 Lions Convention. When the LCI representative visited our districts, the Council Chairman coordinated the related activities and kept us informed. He regularly updated us through correspondence with LCI, ensuring effective communication regarding our activities and programs. As DGs, administered our respective district and communicated with LCI independently.

During that time, we relied on fax machines and phone calls for communication, as no IT infrastructure was in place. The volume of paper generated by my fax machine was substantial, necessitating the organization of printed documents into files, although the ink would often fade before long. Nevertheless, all necessary actions were executed on time.
