World Lions Service Day - North Korean Famine Fund

World Lions Service Day
North Korean Famine Relief Fund

District 308B had responded to an SOS Call from the Malaysian Red Crescent Society to help thousands of starving Korean children. DC Special Projects Raymond Loh immediately arranged for a press conference. The Star Publication had agreed to hop on the wagon to raise fund for the North Korean Famine Relief Fund.
On 8th August, 1997, District Chairman Raymond Loh contacted all our clubs and encouraged each club to donate RM500.00 for the cause. We could easily raise a substantial amount as we had 92 Lions Clubs, 11 Lioness Clubs and 106 Leo Clubs.. The clubs duly responded generously.

On 8th October, 1997, in conjunction with World Lions Service Day, we presented a cheque of RM116,763.80 to Yang Berbahagia, Tun Dato’ Seri Abdul Hamid Bin Haji Omar, the National Chairman of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.  The press conference was held at the Bankers’ Club of KL and witnessed by PID Dato’ Douglas KK Lee and his Lady Lion Datin Ruby Lee, IPDG Leong A Sam, VDG Chee Boon Leong, DC Raymond Loh and other dignitaries.  In addition, a further RM53,495.00 was raised by a few other clubs. In total we had collected RM175,000.00 for the North Korea Famine Fund. Kamsahamnida. A little bit of light pushes away a lot of darkness.
