An international outreach programme in Songkhla

One of the projects implemented by the Lions Club of Alor Star was an International Outreach Programme to the Thai city of  Songkhla. 

The occasion was their 23rd Twinning Celebration with the Lions Club of Hatyai. And the Kedahans decided to commemorate the event by donating a huge stainless steel water tank to the HIV Children’s Home in Songkhla.

I truly appreciated their invitation and the opportunity to savour Thai tradition, culture and hospitality. The visit was indeed an eye-opener as I got to see first-hand the plight of these innocent HIV children and even babies. Many were “orphaned” due to their parents’ predicament.

Babies being babies were just irresistible. We took to cradling the babies in our arms with a tinge of sadness in our hearts. The donation may be a small gift but I felt that it was a necessity in the home. 

Mother Saint Teresa said it best, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”.
