Longest Cake in Malaysian Book of Records

Kota Setar (31/8/1979)

Merdeka Day is a very special day in the hearts of every patriotic Malaysian. The theme for our 40th Anniversary of Independence was “Noble values make a successful society”. Well, the Lions Club of Kota Setar, Kedah lived up to the theme and it did the country proud when it successfully raised RM100,000 for its Heart Fund and RM30.00  for the North Korean Famine Relief Fund.

The fund-raising programme was aptly named “Kasih Sejati Di Hari Merdeka”. The Mentri Besar of Kedah, YAB Tan Sri Sanusi Junid consented to grace this special occasion. A splendid all-red choir started the event by singing the State and National Anthem.

YAB Tan Sri Sanusi was the first to cut the 2,123 kg cake that was beautifully done in the shape and colours of the Jalur Gemilang, our National Flag. A whopping 48 feet long and 10 feet wide! No surprise, this gigantic cake made it into the Malaysian Book of Records! Ten thousand eggs, 520 kg of flour and 517 kg of suger were used to make the cake and were sold to the capacity-full public who thronged the huge Star Shopping Complex to support the programme.  Lion President Dr. Cheah Soon Hai and his team deserved all the praise in organising such a noble event to commemorate our 40th Year of Independence.
