Jementah

Little-known Jementah is the largest pomelo producer in Johore. After my Segamat visit, I took a short drive to visit the sole Lions Club in this small town. My first visit. 

Much to my surprise, they had their own club house that was well-furnished and decorated with Lions paraphernalia. 

I proceeded to attend their meeting and it ended with a beautiful gesture – the club donated RM500 to Mrs. Lee Thean Huat whose husband was suffering from stomach ulcer. 


After the meeting, we visited a paralytic patient named Lim Ming Liang and donated a health ripple mattress for his comfort.

I told the club that I was impressed by their commitment to the Lion’s “Service to mankind” motto. I urged them to keep up the good work and always hold steadfast to the Lions’ International objectives and code of ethics.

It was evident that the clubs in the south were taking the lead to serve the community. It was also comforting to note that they had also joined hands with NGOs as well as the government agencies to optimise their outreach programmes.
