Lions Club of Kangar
23 August 1997 will forever be remembered as the date the Lions movement made a foothold in Perlis. It was the birth of the Lions Club of Kangar!
Region 2 Chair Zullkiffely Darus, Zone 3 Chair Lim Bak Soew, several Cabinet Officers, and I were witnesses to this historic event which included the Presentation of the Charter and the Installation of President Wong Kum Piew and the Board of Directors. While the atmosphere at the event was cordial, the Lions were resplendent in their lounge suits with the Lions International emblem proudly displayed on their left breast pockets. The Lions Induction Ceremony was carried out and the pledge was proclaimed solemnly by the newly minted members in unison.
The club presented a wheelchair to a physically disabled boy. The father thanked the club for the mobility aid.

The Special Guest at the event was Dato’ Loo Choo Huat, the Perlis Chief Police Officer and his wife.
The club was sponsored by the Lions Club of Alor Setar and the Guiding Lion was Ong Lee Hoon.

The club later established its goals and identified various programmes
for the betterment of the community in Perlis. They were also successful in sponsoring Omega Leo Clubs in universities. Kudos Kangar!
