George Town

On 12th August 1997, I was back in my hometown, Penang and I visited the LC of George Town. I shared with them the mission and vision for the district. It was particularly gratifying to be back to my roots, the very club where I was first inducted. Looking back with nostalgia, I have journeyed a long way from being a rookie Lion back in 1964 to becoming a District Governor 23 years later!

Meanwhile, Ooi Aik Seng, the President of the Lions Club of George Town chaired the board meeting. It was held at one of the function rooms of the Crown Prince Hotel, Tanjung Bunga. I was very happy to note that the club had also invited key officers from the Leo Club. Such a gesture will provide a good training ground for the Leos to observe and learn how a meeting was conducted, the Lions’ way. As always, the members of the LC of George Town would often follow up on their meetings with a fair bit of drinking. I noticed it somehow bonded them together well. Everyone was relaxed and jovial. Cheers to that!
