Petaling Jaya Metro 8th Charter Anniversary

Petaling Jaya Metro Anniversary

The Charter Anniversary is the annual celebration that marks the anniversary of the club’s formation. 11th November 1997 was the 8th Charter Anniversary of the Lions Club of Petaling Jaya Metro (PJM). An auspicious anniversary!

I was a District Vice-Governor then when I attended their Charter Anniversary. PJM had twinned with my Home Club on 28/6/1997. Most of the members of this club started as Leos and later progressed to establish the “parent” PJM. As such, their knowledge of Lionism was quite profound as compared to the average Lions Club. The club professed great camaraderie and team to get the work done.

The theme for the fellowship night was Flora and Fauna Nite. So, I turned up in a red flowery batik to blend in with the crowd. Many Lions were dressed in similar flora or fauna motifs.

It was a fun night of laughter and more laughter as the members were close-knit. I reminded them that celebrations aside, an anniversary should also be a day to recap past activities and to seek better ways to implement them in the future.  We should never rest on our laurels.

Extract of speech:

"...Lions Club of PJ Metro is one of the few Clubs in the district that was initiated by former Leo members. It has proven, beyond doubt that every Omega Leos after 28 years of age are potential Lion. They have learned about leadership and what is expected of a Lion member. The chances of molding a Leo into a good Lion are easier because the leadership ingredients already exist in them. I encourage the club to continue tapping the resources of retiring Leos and encourage them into the Lions Movement."
