Gua Musang-Kuala Lipis-Jerantut-Kuantan

Gua Musang - Kuala Lipis - Jerantut - Kuantan

19/9/1997 From Kuala Krai, Region 3 Chairman Wong Peng Soon and RC Chairman of Leo Clubs, Philip Yen took turns to drive my wife and me to Gua Musang, a rural logging town about 60 km away.

Lion President Soh Teck Heng of Gua Musang Lions Club was kind enough to arrange his Club Business Meeting during my presence. The agenda was almost the same as in every club. I was there to answer any queries under “Other matters”.

R3C Wong Peng Soon said that it was time for a drink.
For lunch, the club hosted a delicious fish cuisine. Apparently, this restaurant specialized in riverine fish dishes only. The fish were prepared in different styles of cooking. Very satisfying! So it was a hearty lunch followed by the business meeting.
ZC Jaspal Singh became a tourist guide.

Before leaving Gua Musang, the Lions took us to see a floating mosque and a 400-year-old sacred temple called Swee Nyet Keung (Water, Moon Temple) in Pulai, Gua Musang where relics were found. The temple was built by the earliest Hakka Chinese settlement in Kelantan.

Visited the 400 years old sacred temple

Kuala Lipis

My next stop was Kuala Lipis, a former gold-mining town in Pahang. It was an easy 100 km drive from Gua Musang. We had planned to be there for a dinner meeting.  We arrived at Kuala Lipis Inn at Jalan Benta just as the Lions meeting was about to begin.
President Captain Thong of the Kuala Lipis Lions Club was away. So, it was 1st VP Sun Swee Ching who called the meeting to order.

The meeting was fruitful with many questions answered. We were treated to a sumptuous dinner.

Jerantut

On the next morning, we proceeded to Jerantut which was about 60 km away. It is home to Taman Negara. I was told that the Tembiling Lions Club was preparing a Breast Cancer Detection Health Screening. I was to be there to declare open the project. Subsequently, we adjourned for a Business Meeting with the Lions at Foong Loong Restaurant. Lion R. Banmanban chaired the meeting which lasted more than an hour. After the meeting, we proceeded to Kuantan; reaching our destination at 12.30 in the morning.

Kuantan

20/9/1997 I stayed at the Indera Mahkota Grand Continental Hotel and I spent the morning with Lucy along the Kuantan beaches. That afternoon, I attended the LC Kuantan club meeting at the same hotel.

My visits to the East Coast Lions Clubs covered the four states of Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang, and Kuantan. It was very exhausting but the loop covering the states was very interesting. Indeed, very memorable!
