Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan

Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan

The Lions Club of KL Metropolitan held its Charter Presentation Ceremony and Induction at the historical Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur on the afternoon of 21st September, 1997.
It was the first time I had seen the Selangor Club so packed with formally attired crowd.

The Guest of Honour was YB Dato’ Dr. Sulaiman Bin Mohd, the Deputy Minister of Information. His lady came along for the occasion.  All the VIPs sat in the waiting lounge until the welcoming committee directed us into the hall.
We entered the hall to a full round of applause, shaking hands and acknowledging the Lions along the way.

The Induction Ceremony was conducted by IPDG Leong A Sam. All the charter members were given a membership kit and a red sash to be placed diagonally across their body.

The event was followed by the Charter Presentation. I took the cue and went on stage to present the Certificate of Charter to President Young Siet Chin. Then, the Guest of Honour and the VIPs went on stage for a group photograph. It was a grand event and more importantly, a new club was added under my watch.

Extract of my speech
"Kuala Lumpur City is growing by leaps and bounds. As a city develops, social problems tend to exist and it is timely that  Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan is formed today. The community will benefit so much from its presence together with other Lions Clubs in this region."

The following month on October 18th, 1997  I attended their Business Meeting.  We had more than an hour of fruitful sessions and the new members were so eager to learn and know about Lionism.
